Quilt Notes: Road to Wisconsin - Building the Booth 021 0726

Welcome back, friends. It’s been a busy, creative, slightly chaotic week here at Build A Quilt, and I’m so glad you’re here for another step on this Road to Wisconsin. Every week the booth gets a little more real, a little more refined, and a little more BAQ. This week was a big one.

There’s a moment in every big project where the planning stops being theoretical and suddenly becomes real. This week, that moment arrived. The Build A Quilt booth is no longer one of Dave’s beautifully detailed CAD drawings — it’s becoming a physical space, piece by piece, shelf by shelf, Stitchlet" by "Stitchlet.

Dave and I - Building together

Dave and I spent Saturday in the storage space, hauling shelves, playing with product samples, testing layouts, and laughing our way through the “Does this look cramped” vs. “Does this feel like a little boutique space?” debate. Spoiler: the boutique space won in the end, but it took a lot of dragging tables around to get there. There’s something grounding about seeing the booth come together with your own hands — the CAD drawing becomes a real, three‑dimensional space you can walk around in.

The Shelving Breakthrough

I tried a second 6' table in the space, honestly it looked like I was setting up for my annual garage sale, it just didn't have the feel that I wanted for hosting our quilting community in Wisconsin. A 10x10 booth is smaller than my brain imagined. Then I remembered this little shelving stand. It transformed everything. The little frame on the shelf will hold the product details and specials information.

The scalloped baskets, the soft colors, the clean lines — suddenly the booth felt intentional. Modern. BAQ. The whole space started to feel like a tiny pop‑up quilt shop. This was the moment the booth shifted from “functional” to “curated.”

The Stitchlet Wall

As the Stitchlets are getting their own debut moment. I’m creating two vertical ribbon lines for display — four Stitchlets on each — clipped neatly down the ribbon. It’s a small detail, but it’s one of those details that makes the booth feel alive and interactive. They will hang right next to the shelving display.

The Work Behind the Scenes

Working on booth arrangement
Working on product arrangement

This week has been all about the finishing touches: signage, pricing frames, adding tablecloths, stabilizer packs, thread kits, and making sure every product is show‑ready. There’s a rhythm to this kind of work — the quiet sorting, the arranging, the stepping back to see the whole picture. It’s the kind of work that feels exciting because it means the countdown has officially begun.

Next Steps

The booth is no longer an idea. It’s becoming a real space that people will walk into, explore, and (hopefully!) fall in love with. There’s still plenty to do — packing, labeling, final product prep — but the bones of the booth are here, and they’re strong. If you are able to stop by and see us at the Great Wisconsin Quilt show it would make my day to say, hello. I'll also be sharing photos during the event so everyone can be involved.

Wisconsin, we’re coming!!!!
