Quilt Notes: Signing Your Work - 008 0426

Some mornings start a little off-balance, and today was one of those for me. It’s interesting how a small comment can land heavier than expected, especially when you care deeply about the work you’re doing. When that happens, I tend to reach for the parts of quilting that remind me that details do matter — that the things we notice and the choices we make have weight.

One of those details is the quilt label. We tend to think of the quilt label as an historical marker so that we know the giver and gifted are along with a date. While that is useful information, I think of the quilt label a bit differently.

Quilt Block Segment as Quilt LAbels
Flying Geese as Quilt Label

I’ve always loved the idea of signing a quilt the way a painter signs a canvas. It’s a quiet, confident way of saying: I made this. It mattered to me. A couple of the Basic 6 segments make beautiful labels, and I especially love placing them on the front corner of a quilt. It feels modern, intentional, and personal — a small signature that becomes part of the story.

For Wednesday’s LIVE, I’m sharing a free downloadable segment you can use as a label. Something simple, meaningful, and easy to add to your next project.

And speaking of meaningful… There’s something big happening behind the scenes — something I’ve been working toward for a long time. I can’t say much until then, but I can say this: it’s a milestone that exists because of you. Your support through every experiment, every pivot, every season of building has made this next step possible. If you’ve been part of this journey, you’re going to want to be there. I will be revealing everything on Wednesday at 2pm and/or 6pm during our monthly Build A Quilt Live on our YouTube channel.

So that’s where my head and heart are today: finding steadiness in the small things, signing our work, and remembering that the details we care about are worth caring about.

See you Wednesday.

Diana

My daughter, who received the baby quilt I made, suggested I make a label for it. I can’t wait to see your idea.
