Happy Sunday Quilting Friends -
For the past twenty‑three weeks, we’ve been moving through the 24 Block Challenge one steady step at a time. Each block has been built from the Basic 6 segments — choose a size, pull your fabrics, stitch your segments, and watch the design come together. There’s something comforting about that rhythm. It’s simple, clear, and reliable. You always know where you’re starting and where you'll end up. It is the basis of the Build A Quilt system.
But Block 24 is different.
This week, we’re stepping beyond the straightforward use of the Basic 6 and into something more expansive. Instead of choosing a single segment and building the block around it, we’re combining parts of two different segments to create something entirely new. It’s a small shift in technique, but it opens a big door.
This is the moment where the Basic 6 stop being “only basis” and start becoming “the expressive building blocks.”
When I designed this block, I wanted you to see what’s possible when you start mixing and matching the pieces you already know. The Basic 6 were never meant to limit you — they were meant to give you a foundation. And once you understand the foundation, you can start bending it, stretching it, and shaping it into something uniquely yours.
That’s what Block 24 is all about.
It’s the first glimpse of how the Build‑A‑Quilt system grows with you. How your confidence grows. How your creativity grows. How your blocks can evolve into something more complex, more expressive, and more personal. This block is a reminder that quilting isn’t about memorizing patterns — it’s about understanding the language of shapes so you can speak in your own voice.
And if you’ve been with me for a while, you know my philosophy: perfect is the enemy of beautiful.

The most beautiful blocks aren’t the ones that follow the rules the tightest. They’re the ones where you let yourself try something new.
As you work through this week’s block, I hope you feel that sense of possibility — that spark of “oh, I can do more with this.” Because you can. This is just the beginning of what’s possible when you start combining segments and exploring new shapes.
If you make this block, I’d love to see your version — especially how you combine your segments and what fabrics you choose. Every variation tells a different story, and I love seeing how your creativity shows up in these little squares of fabric.
Here’s to the final block of the challenge… and to everything it opens up next.
